This Christmas, East Village and Get Living London put out a call to the local community for the second year running to donate Christmas presents for local children in need as part of the Christmas Tree Project – and they really delivered!
The project is an appeal by the Met Police which aims to ensure that thousands of children in care across the capital receive a Christmas present each year. The Met Police work closely with Newham Council to identify those children most in need and East Village was delighted to be able to support the project again. Residents, staff teams and businesses in East Village all got involved, donating a stunning total of 250 presents for the appeal. It’s a testiment to the strength of community spirit, and generosity of the residents of E20 and the surrounding area that such a fantastic haul was acheived.
Donated presents were dropped off at the Get Living London Welcome Office on Celebration Avenue then collected by the Safer Neighbourhood Police team and taken to Newham Social Services where they will be wrapped and distributed ready for Christmas.
Get Living London CEO, Neil Young, said: “We are so pleased to be supporting the Christmas Tree Project for the second year and have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community here at East Village.
“It is fantastic to know that children in need from the local area will receive one of the presents donated by people across East Village and the difference this will make to their Christmas.”
