Get Living will launch homes for rent in Manchester this year, after its investors acquired 800 homes in Middlewood Locks.
Middlewood Locks is a 25-acre scheme being developed by FairBriar International, a joint venture of Scarborough International Properties, Metro Holdings of Singapore and Hualing Group of China.
The new waterside neighbourhood is located around three large basins of the Manchester, Bolton and Bury canal, connecting the River Irwell to Manchester’s central business district and city centre retail amenities.
When complete, Middlewood Locks will provide a total of 2,215 new homes, for sale and for rent, amongst landscaped areas of green public space and 900,000 sq ft of commercial space including a hotel, gym, restaurants and shops.
This is Get Living’s first venture in Manchester, with its first 275 homes to launch this year.
Get Living already manages more than 700 homes in Elephant and Castle and 1,500 homes in East Village, the former 2012 Athlete’s Village, where it will launch a further 500 new homes this spring. By the end of 2019, Get Living will have close to 3,000 operational homes across the UK.
“We are very excited to be bringing the Get Living brand to the North West,” says Rick de Blaby, Get Living’s Executive Chairman. “The location, the masterplan and the building designs at Middlewood Locks provides us with the homes and public realm that enables us to deliver to residents our market-leading offer in Manchester and Salford.”
Get Living was the first landlord in the UK to scrap security deposits* in 2017, putting £3 million back into renters’ pockets and the local economy. Get Living offers three-year tenancies with a resident-only break clause as standard to give renters both security and flexibility.
Neil Young, CEO of Get Living, adds: “We are committed to maintaining our position as the leading provider of build-to-rent homes in the UK, so to be launching the first phase of Get Living homes outside of London is a major milestone for us. Manchester is a dynamic city which is attracting more and more young professionals – the sector is yet to catch up with the demand.”
“We’ve got ambitions growth plans for 12,500 homes over the next five years and this partnership with Scarborough International Properties’ brings us another step closer to that target,” says Neil.
“In building big city neighbourhoods, where we can curate the public realm and amenities, we have the opportunity to establish communities where people live, work and play and add real social value to the wider area.”
