This summer marks ten years since Get Living revitalised the former 2012 Athletes’ Village, creating the UK’s first large scale build-to-rent community. East Village London as it stands today spans 65 acres, including 25 acres of public realm, close to 4,000 homes and 30 retailers, most of which are independent. Most importantly, 6,000 people, from all walks of life, have chosen to call this thriving neighbourhood their home.
This simple yet powerful word is what we’re driven by. We understand the vital ingredients of great neighbourhoods that make places feel like home.
Going beyond bricks and mortar, places need to create a sense of comfort and safety, a sense of community, and ultimately a sense of belonging.
This milestone is an opportunity to reflect on our learning and discover why this sense of togetherness and belonging is so fundamental to people’s lives and their wellbeing. Learn more about what we’re doing to celebrate “Where We Belong.”
We’ve commissioned a report of 10,000 people in the UK to understand the value of belonging and how it impacts the way we live, along with insights from placemaking and wellbeing experts to explain why it matters.

We set the stage for a community to thrive, but it’s people that make a place. We’ve identified ten local champions who have played important roles in nurturing and supporting East Village’s community in the last decade, helping it to blossom. Their stories and portraits will be exhibited in The Lab E20 for three weeks.
27 June – 13 July
We’re inviting our Instagram followers to explore their neighbourhood and capture an image that represents what “belonging” means to them. Entries will be judged by local professional photographers and there are up to £1,500 worth of prizes to be won.
15 July
Join London photographer and visual artist Hajia Dahiru for a morning exploring and capturing images of architecture in nature at East Village. Discover artistic features in the neighbourhood and learn new camera skills that can be achieved with just a smartphone. All levels welcome.
